ok i have a dvd of a video that i made, but after my computer crashed i lost the file so all i have left is the dvd. how can i rip the dvd so that it is an avi file and not a disc image.

ok please, i do not like to double post but i know there are some very knowledgable people here. or if you do not know how can someone lead me in the right direction.

Rip it back to Mpeg-2, then convert it to AVI using Premiere or another editor. Don't know of anything that will convert straight to AVI, although I'm sure there is. there will be some quality loss however going from teh lower bitrate DVD mpeg format back to AVI, the editor will have to create data that really doesn't exist from teh compressed Mpeg... may not be noticesable, a lot depends on what is going on in the scene.
