There are a few good guides at VCDHelp.com

I started off with the guide called Sefys classical newbie start DVD Ripping guide

This uses Smartripper to extract the data from the DVD, DVD2AVI to extract the sound from the resulting files, TMPGEnc to encode to MPEG1 and VCDEasy to create the VideoCD with chapters.

Allthough it doen'y allow all the control that matt's process does, DVDbackup is a good all in one allternative. (The only extra you need is something like NERO to actually burn the disk)

Post by dsnynut25 »

I stumbled across some legal software for ripping DVD's onto CD-R's or VCD's. All thats required is the software, a CD-R, and a DVD-ROM It retails for 50 dollars(US.) This is the link to the software website: http://www.dvdcopyplus.com/

the best software for this is also free. the program is called dvd2svcd. it uses free encoder tmpgenc or the overly priced cce. but all the same its a very good program for ripping dvd's at the click of a button.
