Post by Famous »

I am working on lables for the cases of DVDs.
If you look at the average one there is eiether a colage or just a picture.
Did you also notice that the picture of an actor for example is all cut out nicley.I dunno.
Pirates of the Carribian has a horribley done back cover just look at it.

If you want to mix photos (Bitmaps) in with text, backgrounds, and stuff like that to create a composite image making up somthing like a DVD cover, I fully recommend CorelDRAW! You can download a fully working version off their website at www.corel.co.uk

It's easy to use, but also very functional and feature packed. I also use Adobe Illustrator, but I find it's messy, you have to go through loads of menus (and remember where to find things). You can also download a trial version of Illustrator to see for yourself which you prefer, but like I say, Corel is way more user-friendly!

Yay! Corel Draw is great stuff! I made my Day of Defeat avatar with it. I also use MGI PhotoSuiteIII. I got it free some few years ago, but I still like what can do. Has some nice lens features.

Yeah, I need to change mine, haven't gotten around to it - I'm just so busy you know!
As Forum Master II, I can't leave this thread like this. I have to add to the question of the Famous' original post here. Reading really deeply into the question, I think Famous is asking how to they do the close-up images of actors.

Well, what they do is get an image from the movie, and paste it into a graphics editing program (Like mentioned above). They then use a feature called cropping, that trims off the edges, showing a close-up of something in particular.

If you had a basic graphics package, you should find all these tools included.

I have a special CD printer - A Seiko CDP2000! It doesn't print labels, but onto the CDs/DVDs themselves!

Goes back to my graphics designer days where I'd like to send professional looking CDs to big comapnies.

I've always hated CD labels, and unless they are stuck on just right, they'll throw the CD off balance, and cause read errors. They can also pucker slightly, and interfere with the works of the CD, especially in slimline drives.

If you must use labels and won't get a dedicated CD printer like me, then make sure you get a special label aplication kit that positions the CD/DVD and the label to make sure it's placed properly.

Has any1 used "Avery Afterburner CD/DVD labeling system"? looks good, itz a kinda roll-on label applying-thingy... just I'm doin a lot of shoppin @ the moment and wanna save any money I can. It's cheap (bout £12) but i don't want sumthing that'd mess things up...

any1 any opinions of the thing 4 an amateur film-maker in debt? not likely but worth a shot.
