Star Wars Rise of The Empire Beta

Post by videofxuniverse »

This originally started out for me to learn how to use 3d studio max, but evolved into a small movie. EVERYTHING is CGI including the Darth maul Character. All models used where from scifi3d.net. I used 3d studio max 8 adobe after effects and sony vegas. I am continuing the video, this is just a short clip that took me 3 weeks to do. I do hope that this footage could be put to better use by filming a proper fanfilm with people and live sets but you never know, i got some jedi robes somewhere lol anyone interested? dont laugh at the cr** dubbing its only a beta version

While I can see you were learning as you went along, it wasn't bad!

Bad points would be the long intro (which kinda works for a long Star Wars film but is just one massive bore when tagged on to a short film), and the way ships sped up and slowed down at the beginning and ends of shots. Oh, and the fact you told us that everything was CGI when it's pretty fookin' obvious ;)

Other than that, all good! Although I have to admit, I watched it without sound so can only really comment on the animation and editing

yeah the voioces are pretty bad acting., maybe you should affect them, add a tiny echo etc. Looks interesting, some of the 3d is a bit dodgy, but then I'm used to the multi-bilion blockbuster films. It is very ambitious doing 100% cgi.

Not shabby! Out of the 3 weeks, was 2 of that for rendering? I hate the long waits - just had one of the iMacs at school working on a 10 second scene for a day and a half.

Nice CG.

Not bad. my biggist complate was that your space went from looking really good and defined to being just black. Some of it felt like compretion and some kind of felt like, "oops forgot to add stars" otherwise good start.

Thanks for the comments, most of the rendering lasted between 3 minutes and 3 hours on each scene. As this is only a beta the voice is cr** because it was a quick last minute thing as i wanted to get it online quick, I will go back and change them. trying to find a voice changing program. I know what you mean about the space scenes being black, however the video has been compressed, squeezed and youtubed, the original source file has all the quality, with stars and such. You cant really see the stars in that video because of the compression, even though I did add stars in every scene. I am still editing the clips now so all comments taken will be acted on, like the ships slowing down etc. And I do plan on continueing it with a planet battle (With the walkers and snow speeders from empire strikes back) and finishing off with a complete space war (End of return of the jedi) Of course the rebellion will win lol. However I didn't realise I would go so far with it as it was only meant for me to learn how to use the program, but what better way to learn than to make your own film all in cgi
