Deadly Waters - First Zombie Movie (pics)

Post by kene555 »

Well, this is my first zombie film, so...yeah. The basic premise is that these guys are trying out some new fertilizer, and when they water the produce, the leftover water trickles into a drain, which leads to a lake...

The contaminated water revives some dead guys in the lake from a mass suicide in the 90's, and...well, you can guess the rest! :D Zombie outbreak.

These are some of the behind the scenes pics, with actual stills from the cameras to follow.

Today we filmed our first scene, in which some unwary boaters are attacked.

Enjoy!

Yeah, my friend (the scriptwriter for this) is the one who got everyone together. He gets all these kids to help out at his annual haunted house, so naturally they'd be into this sort of thing.

And I've got enough luck to get me plenty of help filming.

No, that's more of the preview. It's more of a part of a part of the movie, so...whatever.

I'll delete the commentary, but just wanted to explain what was goin' on in the pictures so it wasn't just random chaos...

But I see where you're coming from. :D

Nice camera. I don't like the idea of fertilizer bringing people back from death, especially when there corpses have been rotting for 7-17 years. It also sounds like a movie I have seen... cabin fever? It doesn't sound original in my eyes. Sorry.

i was wondering, the water in your area must be pretty conservational, since these stiffs and their clothes look remarkably intact, considdering the fact that they mass suicided in the 90's already.

I am working on editing this segment, and of course when it is done you guys will be the first to see it. I will be relying on you guys to help me with editing and color techniques and tips.
how did you do the zombie makeup? I am new to that aspect of filmmaking.
I'm not the makeup guy, that's the scriptwriter (I'm the cinematographer and editor), but from what I know, my friend used some latex masks on a few. He found those for cheap, or used Styrofoam to sculpt the head, then molded the masks. For zombies with no masks, he used charcoal to blacken areas of the face, and splashed some blood on the face. Another face was made out of paper mache or a similar substance to simulate weedy growth.
Nice camera.
Thank you :D I appreciate that.
I don't like the idea of fertilizer bringing people back from death, especially when there corpses have been rotting for 7-17 years.
I don't especially like it either, but I just film the movie. If you guys have any other plausible reasons, which must involve a liquid of some sort entering the lake and creating zombies, please post it and I will certainly submit it to the writer for consideration.

Salt water, maybe? I dunno, I made that part up to add to the story(we're still hashing it out, so its pretty weak :D ) Again, if you guys have ideas to make this better, submit 'em!

Yeah, post it in the scriptwriting section. If I have free time and see a script, and have the resources, I'm glad to take it up...and I'm sure others are too!

More updates sometime this week.

Ok, here's the first edit. I am trying to keep this quiet and under the radar, so this is for those willing to critique and offer advice, not just to watch. Go to my website and under projects there will be a link to the site where you can find the first edit clip.

Thanks!

It was all looking nice, right up until they spoke in the boat, then two things happened:
1. The live sound kicked in that had major problems.
2. The bad acting.

You look like you are really trying hard with this, so I would clamp down on these straight away. You look to have a nice enough set-up not to have sound problems. Also, if you want to be a good Director then advise your actors on how they should be acting their parts, but don't let them get away with that kind of effort. Most of your shots look fine, but the first pipe shot is too short, when a longer shot follows. Just about a second.

That's my advice, hope it helps.

Yeah, thanks for the advice. As for the sound, we had gusts of wind at maybe 40 kilometers per hour, so it was bad conditions for sound to begin with. We used the boom pole as best we could, but wind and distance from the actors created problems. Boat dialogue has been bumped up 20-25 dB.

The actors are just friends with no acting experience whatsoever. I will do what I can to get them to act right, although it was a miracle in itself to get them to choke out those lines without laughing.

Thank you for that, I will do what I can - maybe re-edit the boat scene with the voiceovers we did...

Behind the Scenes and Bloopers - these are good kids, but not so good at acting.:(

The only thing funnier than rhys is how terribly anti-rhys zacatac is for some reason.

I think they were on eBay or something, at any rate they were online and on sale - I think he got the 6 of them for $20, when they were originally $10-$20 each.

Great deals!

Right, welcome Dave!

Guys, 213 is our scriptwriter for this project. He is our fx guy, and knows loads about masks, pneumatics, everything about zombies and Halloween.

He also plays as this zombie on the left.

Edit*

It looks likely that we will be filming the opening scene this Friday night.
