Macbeth, Act 2

Post by BlakJakDavy »

My latest film is a school project based on the Second Act of Macbeth, modernized.

Basically, Macbeth realizes he could become king if he murders the current King, Duncan, who is spending the night in Macbeth's castle. He daydreams about what life would be like as king. He then sets out to do the deed, and the film ends after its immediate consequences.

Let me know what you think, I know the acting sucks in a lot of places, it IS a school project. Just one I had a lot of fun with.

And now, the part you've all been waiting for, the link:

Sound is a big issue. A lot of it was difficult to hear. I know it's just a project, but invest in a microphone and make up a boom. It makes a world of difference.

Good Muzzle flashes.

Acting is bad, but fine for just a project.

Car chase was well done except for the sped up parts.

It was just a project dude....It's not like he wrote the script. The sound was pretty bad in some parts and being a director whom hates the sterotype actor and uses really really bad actors, I can understand what he is comming from. You can't choose the people in your English class and most of them aren't good actors. The songs were awsome (particularly "Revolution") and you, like myself, probably need to get a boom mic for future projects. He is probably also a procrastinator and does his work at the last second...also like myself....so I don't blam you (if you're not...just go along with it :-) ). Lawiejaffa, if you're going to criticize someone....do it constructively, don't tear them apart. Not cool. Plus, it could dishearten him/them to do future projects and your blasting away another member of the film community.

*EDIT*
I know it was just for a school project...but all of Shakespear's stuff that is modernized is pretty bad....so if you want to do it, just translate it and then write those lines down and have your actors portray those characters.

Hahaha, yeah.
Funny thing is, I WAS using a boom! The only problem is, no amplifier, not even a mic boost on the laptop we were using (the one with is on the fritz. Stupid Vista.) So then I had to amplify stuff and use noise reduction and you know what happens then.

Glad you liked the car chase. It's my favorite part along with the daydream montage to "Revolution."

Lawriejaffa, sorry if you don't like modernized Shakespeare, we were only trying to have a little fun. Chill out :D

Shakespeare modernised? They are plays they can be interpretated in any manner of ways, Richard III with Ian Mckellan (forgive any typos btw) was good, even Romeo with Di-Caprio was a decent adaptation - while historically set ones such as Polanski's macbeth are great etc etc.

Normally i give long and detailed critiques with praise and constructive criticism but this was just pants, it was not put up to be rated proberly, to be discussed seriously. I'ts just hideous what do you expect people to say? Did you put it online because you expected advice such as do this to the sound - do this to your shots etc etc. The faults are obvious - OBVIOUS and you posted this rubbish anyway.

There is no excuse for such obvious mediocrity - whether its done by a 1 arm media highschool student or not... So sorry he deserves the drubbing he's getting for wasting my time watching that rubbish. Next time work on something that has SOME blooming effort put into it.

It can suck but if it has obvious effort put into it - that deserves criticism and attention - advice etc, but this smacks of zero effort and sucks - so sorry... thats why im giving you a hard time.

Yes there is...it's called a low budget. I like making films, and I want to make some serious (proftionallity and genre wise) movies. However, while I am in the process of collecting funds, I just go out with my friends and film something that radomly comes to mind and then edit it with Windows Movie Maker.

Its not the issue of low budget or not, its called dedication,

Take Kentertainment on this forum, i mean i could buy his whole production company for a packet of crisps (or chips if ur from the USA) but the guy has made some decent shorts because of the effort put into shots (thanks to egoist Gyro) and some decent scripts - but most of all PLANNING.

My film The Suicide Artist is similarly costing peanuts to make but it was planned enough to make it worthwhile watching.

Some gimp shooting their mates randomly and editing a crappy vid is fine for making ur mates laugh on youtube, but certainly not for posting it on a forum and calling it a film. Cos it's not a film... its some self indulgent rubbish...

That is true. Planning is a huge aspect in this. But sometimes you don't have time

Yeah, this whole thing was done in about two weeks of planning and 4 days of shooting. Again, I stress, I was not attempting to win Sundance. I just wanted to have a little fun. Sorry if you don't get the joke or whatever, but I put this together, with a lot of effort on some of the scenes (It's obvious which ones), just for fun. And a lot of people here seem to have really enjoyed it.

I realize the acting sucks. I realize that it doesn't look like night-time when we say it is. I see all the faults, I made the thing. However, I think some of it came out well, and overall, I enjoyed the experience and hope that many of you out there will enjoy the film too.

Like I said, the boom mike was plugged into a laptop with no mic boost coz the one with a boost was exploding due to Windows Vista being hopeless.

Where can you hear the camera move? I must have missed that coz I wouldn't have let that get into my film if I'd caught it, even a pointless fun one like this.
