Receivers

I'm planning on starting on a home theater system, possibly sometime by the end of this year. I'm interested in starting off with a very good receiver, then eventually speakers. I've only got a limited idea as to what to look for (like cable connection types).

But as far as specs (i.e. ohms), I'm a bit clueless. I'd like suggestions as to what I should be looking at and why. For receivers and even speakers.

With Bose speakers, I looked up the retail right now on it, 1199.99$ USD...is that good, i mean when we hooked the speakers up, it was awesome sound espically when we got the 2nd one hooked up...we got the speakers from a garage sale, where some chick was gettin divorced, and they were her husbands, worth 250.00 each, i got em for 20 bucks :P how good is that
