help can i change my harddrive data rate?

im transfering my film onto my pc with my 40gb ibm its fine but when i transfer it onto my 80gb its lags i think this is because the ibm is 30k data rate when the 80gb is only 3k datarate. how can i change this? do i need to buy a new hd?

Perhaps not, if you're lucky, a cable switch could save the day...

If you have a motherboard with EIDE, then replace the standard IDE cable with an EIDE one. If your drive is compatible with this, then you'll have a better data speed.

If your drive is EIDE, but your motherboard isn't, get a new controller card, these can be obtained for about $15 new.

ALso, make sure you regularly defragment your hard drive, even if your system tells you that you don't need to. This can make a significant impact on your drive performance.
