A mad feat of digital proportions!

Post by crossfire »

i am attempting a challenge, to fit a full 2 hour movie... onto a FLOPPY DISK, thats right one of them that holds 1.44 megs. Now i know most of the big things to take care of to make it smaller, like bitrate, framerate, etc. but does anyone know any other things that i can use to my advantage? thx for any advice, and ill post the movie on here once compressed.

Ha! Good luck. I don't think It's possible to do and have a remotely watchable product.

ROFL of course not, itll probably be resolution 1x1, but the point is if i can get it thats a first step, after that i can try to make it watchable, but for now if i can do it itd be pretty cool to walk around and say here you wanna see a movie on this FLOPPY DISK, and theyll look at me like WTH

its not possiable to make it work, and if you some how did it wouldnt be viewable, it would just be a waste of time. But from my expirence window movie maker made video into small file sizes but for that long of a video it wouldnt work.

I think it could work. Ive seen 1 hour clips in .ra format that were just a couple of megs, and they were fairly good quality for their filesize.

I just tried doing it in Windows Movie Maker, and it will only let me go down to 36 mb for a 2 hour video. Here are the stats it gave me:

File Type: Windows Media Video (WMV)______________________Estimated Space Required: 36.26 mb
Bit Rate: 38 Kbps
Display Size: 216 x 120 Pixels
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Frames Per Second: 15

I got it to fit at 4:33:07
File Type: Windows Media Video (WMV)______________________Estimated Space Required: 1.37 mb
Bit Rate: 38 Kbps
Display Size: 216 x 120 Pixels
Aspect Ratio 16:9
Frames Per Second:15

Good Luck though!

thats it using the first setting you provided just reduce the bitrate to 1 KBps, thatll be 38 times smaller in size, and 36.6 divided by 38 is smaller than a meg! i think success smiles upon me with a golden gleaming grin.

I'm sure Premiere can do it. It isn't idiot proof like Windows Movie Maker.

Yes im afraid that your right, windows movie maker i guess was designed mroe for people that have little knowledge or experience with making movies (AKA the average windows owner) so it cant be too complexe.

At that resolution it won't go any smaller.... you spec 216 x 120 pixels, or a total of 25, 920 pixels per frame
X 15 FPS = 38.8 k per second needed to redraw the screen 15 times per second....

When you get down to small sizes then lose the audio if you can.

i will most definetly drop the audio, then i guess the next best thing is to make the resolution lower, hopefully i wont need to go down to 1x1 but i will if thats wat it takes!
