I found out that it's not illegal to own them here, in fact, you can get them mail order - You just have to be oficially 18 years old, and can't take them out into public places. That's a real problem if you're doing filming. I guess you could always ask your local police station what they would recommend.

As far as I know, the same applies to blank firing guns. Anyone remember Adam & The Ants???? He got prosecuted for waving a replica gun around in public, and a few days ago, some geezer down at a pub squirted a policeman in his van, and the policeman got out and pepper-sprayed the bloke! That guy has now been prosecuted, and is facing a jail term, thanks to the police officer throwing the book at him!

Ouch, well we can have swords regardless of age it seems, and while I don't think we can have them in public places it hasn't stoped us. We plan to plead stupidity if we get introble.

hi
at fatpony films we use a lot of blank firing guns ( MP5,Glock,Uzi,PPK ect) and the one's you can buy legaly in the uk have solid barrels so they cannot be converted to fire real amunition the problem with this is the muzzle flash come out of the breech ( the bit where the spent round edjects) so this has to be deleted using pc software( we use after effects 5 and boris red or commotion) and a new flash rotoscoped onto the front of the weapon . guns for pro film work have open barrels so the muzzle flash is correct but this type are more dangerous as any foreign object in the barrel is fired out and this is what killed brandon lee . so some time's it is easyest to use a dummy gun and add sound effects and flashes afterwards this is also much safer also i sometimes use a blank gun and dont tell some mebers of the cast this usualy get the right expresions even from the worst actors ! .:o
ashes to ashes dust to dust if you dont get it out and use it its going to rust !

Blanks are dangerous.

8mm round, point blank range. Note the burning powder went straight through both sides. Safety first.
