Vomiting

Post by fi11m-m4k3r »

Hello all!
I was thinking of doing a scene where a character vomits excessively like in
Monty Python: The Meaning of Life
Mr Creosote (Monty Python)
Or
Little Britain
Little Britain: Vomiting in contest

I was thinking of using an insecticide sprayer and a garden hose filled with fake vomit, but the insecticide sprayer would propably shoot it all out like a burst instead of a steady stream. Any ideas?

If you take the spray off you get a nice constant flow!

We used it for this sketch (which you probably shouldn't watch if you're a young'un or afraid of man love)

What do you mean "Take the spray off"? Do you mean removing the nozzle?

I have one of these: Image
The fake vomit will propably be very thick so I can't put it in the sprayer itself. I will have to put it in the hose coming out of the sprayer. The problem is that when you pump it and then release the air, it comes out like a fast burst and that wont look very realistic. I want a large, steady stream of vomit. If i press the releasing thing all the time, it pumps in the same speed as you pump the thing on the top, but I think that wouldn't have enough force to make the vomit fly out.

I was also thinking of using a garden hose, plugging it into the water tap and into a tank of some sort, filled with vomit, connecting the tank to a hose that goes behind the actors mouth. When you turn the water on, it should press the vomit out of the tank and into the hose.

What do you think is the best option?

Yeah sorry, the nozzle. Your hose idea might work (dunno why you'd need to have it coming out of the sprayer) however!

The only other way I can think of (which is probably how they do it in the movies) is by attaching a vomit-filled tube to some form of compressed air

No, the hose and water idea doesn't have anything to do with the sprayer. Sorry if it was unclear. English is not my primary language.
The hose and sprayer idea has something to do with the sprayer. If I fill the hose with vomit, I have to have something that presses it out. The sprayer can do that but it does it too fast like a burst. I need some kind of thing that delivers a steady stream of something to press the vomit out of the hose.

I found this video on YouTube:
Zero Budget Vomit Effects part 1
Something like that, but I'm trying to do it a little more disgusting and comical (hopefully). I need a larger volume of vomit than that. I could do many shots and fill it up between, but it still doesn't shoot out at the velocity I'd like.

I think it will mainly be acting that sells it off, unless you really just want the vomit, then i say go with the spray idea, but dont make it too thick.
Watch whatever movie i saw not long ago, about them guys who go on a roadtrip to go see kiss, and one of them goes and gets drunk in a stripclub and vomits in a jar when hes up on stage.... whats that movie called?
