Could you list the exact settings you used for the levels? It looks pretty good.

Well I didn't really use and ' numbers ' or anything. That was done in Premiere Pro using the Color Correction effect. The most important is the Black level. Use the splitscreen option and then try a couple spots ( dark areas ) and see what it looks like. The White you can set but usualy that's ok... the mids or grays i leave alone becuase its extremely difficult to set that if you dont have middle gray to work off of.

Then for the magic bullet, it was the 5 free plugins that came with pro when i registered it with adobe. It was just the Filmic preset. Magic Bullet is a b**ch for render times though :(

I actually went back and really tried the ' double track with blur and desat. ' method on some footage I had of turtles and it looked pretty good actually. i'm going to use it now :)
