RE: Se7en Color Correction

There's a great book entitled, New Cinematographers that goes into great detail about Darius Khondji (I can never pronounce his name correctly) and the way he bleach bypassed the entire shoot. Sort of a inspiration to what Kaminski did on Private Ryan.

Is there a real cinematographer even out there who whines about the lack of public 'appreciation'? lol to be honest its usually just students calling themselves cinematographers (and not just cinematographers) that moan in general about lack of so called public appreciation. That's not the discussi...

Another Slightly Controversial Discussion.

I highly believe that cinematographers are VERY under appreciated. Why, if you agree, do you think this is? If not, where do you think they should stand, and why? I mean, what's the deal?

There's a difference between a lens, and a lens adapter. All consumer/prosumer mini-dv (with the exception of the xl) series don't allow for lens change, and therefore all you can do is get adaptations. And the only way to make a shot wider than what it regular captures, is through the distortion an...

RE: Digital 8 vs. miniDV

D8 could be the best quality in the world, but you'll never get anything out of it, due to the line of cameras that support D8. Unlike, mini DV which unleashes it's highest quality standard on something like a DVX100B or an XL2.

Reason why I asked: It seems like everyone in the amatuer filmmaking industry/matthawkins.co.uk wants to be a director, they think it's the best job there is and nothing can compare. I'll be honest, for the longest time I thought that's most definitely what I wanted to be. But, not until I gripped a...

Since the director's job is to tell a story, he should probably know how to write one. A director should at least know the basics of every job in his crew. It will make his ability to direct easier. And if they don't know, I sometimes ask myself, "Why the heck is this person telling me what to...

RE: Directing

I have a theory that directors, being the "big deal on set" should know at least the basics to nearly every filmmaking aspect--otherwise it seems foolish if he or she is telling everyone else what to do. There are plenty of directors who write their own stuff (eg. M. Night Shyamlan, P.T. A...

Actually that does work quite well, if you've ever seen the short trailer film "Grayson", shot on film about Robin from the Batman Comics, a lot of the shafts of light were created with cigar smoke. Interesting stuff.

Some cameras don't allow tape export. Try a different camera or a DV Deck.
