RE: PAL, and NTSC

If it breaks sending it back is going to be a big, expensive problem. You would lose quality every time you convert to PAL and converting frame rates is never great. My advice is get a PAL camera. Either pay the extra or get a lower spec camera for the same money. You will save yourself so much hass...

As the PC has IDE interfaces your old drive will work. You can add it as a secondary drive assuming there is room in the case.

RE: Capture through USB

The USB port on many cameras is just for getting photos and audio clips off. I never use the USB port on my camera. Firewire is better because USB requires tons of CPU resources whereas Firewire doesn't.

Firewire cards are so cheap that USB just isn't worth using.

RE: will my computer accept this type of hard drive

Serial ATA (SATA) drives have different connections to ultra ATA (normal IDE) drives!

Some motherboards will take both, some hard drives take both but you need to double check the motherboard.

Remember that AVI is a container format. The codec defines how the frames are compressed. When you deal with an AVI you need to know what the codec is. AVI on it's own is not enough info. AVI is like a filing cabinet containing pieces of paper that represent frames. The codec is equivelent to what l...

Finally saw UDDS X ! Excellent work grant. Loved the opening sequence. Loved the mini gun. Loved your eye hanging out. The end credits were great and the UDDS theme tune rocks! Liked the crackly radio messages. You should have made more use of the minigun! Do a special edition and stick in an extra ...

Premiere Pro Exports DV with Dropped Frames

I have just exported my timeline from Premiere Pro to a standard DV file. I've done this a hundred times before ... but this time the DV avi file shows "dropped frames" when I show its properties within Premiere. I am exporting so I don't see how I can have 'proper' dropped frames. It appe...

RE: Google Video Help

The clip I am experimenting with is 4 minutes long. As a DV AVI it is over 700Mb :)

I am rendering an MPEG2 6mbs, progressive, PAL, PCM, 16x9 and that is coming out as 220Mb. I'll upload that and see. Google does seem to take forever to verify uploads

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Stop Motion Short (the dogs tea)

I thought it was funny. Keep at it. There is plenty of room for improvement but that just means you can have more fun. The obvious things to work on are : 1) Keep the camera position stable 2) Make the set walls taller 3) Make smaller movements so the animation is a bit smoother Having attempted to ...

Google Video Help

I'm thinking of uploading some stuff to Google Video. I've had a look at what they want you to upload but I've got a few questions. They say they want 4:3 NTSC footage ... but what if your Premiere project is 16x9 PAL? What should I export from Premiere to upload to Google for the best results? They...

Although Blair Witch gets critised now at the time it got bums on seats in cinemas. It depends how you measure a good film. Is there any point making your living from film making if you are making 'good' films but no one is paying to see them? The people who made Blair Witch are laughing all the way...

The one thing I would add is that amateur films are allowed to be self indulgent because they are a form of personal entertainment. Some people on here aspire to be professional film makers and get famous. That's fine. Some will make it, some won't. Some people make films just for the fun of it. It'...

I use AutoGK for creating XVID videos from DV footage.

Have a look at my PDA XVID Tutorial for an example of how to create XVIDs from DVDs.

The tutorial is specifically for DVD to PDA but the principle is the same for creating 700Mb movies etc. You just up the resolution and target file size.

Adam used Adobe Encore to do the Hollow Point DVD. It is quite complicated and takes a while to pick up but is extremely powerful. I have used TMPEGEnc DVD Author v1.5 in the past for smaller projects. It strikes a good balance between time taken to learn and the results it produces. I've also heard...

Because it is Beta it probably means it is yours to keep forever ... but any bugs in it are unlikely to be fixed until the next version ... and you may not get that one for free.

If it doesn't work out and you need an Office suite on the cheap then you can't get much cheaper than Open Office v2

Jimbobsquarepants, Firewire is so much easier. It also places less demand on your CPU. USB is hungry. This may mean your PC is struggling to capture properly.

You can get firewire cards with a cable for less than £20 at ebuyer.com
