Digital 8 camcorders are more or less considered obsolete today. MiniDv is the current standard. However, this will all be changing within the next decade as memory storage cards improve.

Since the director's job is to tell a story, he should probably know how to write one. A director should at least know the basics of every job in his crew. It will make his ability to direct easier.

I wouldn't trust a plastic bag underwater. That's asking for a disaster. Try making a metal box with a glass or plexiglass side, but there should be as minimal air inside the casing as possible, otherwise you're going to have a heck of a time keeping it submerged!

Well, the solution is simple. By night the sky is dark. By day the sky is bright. Therefore, when filming a shot during the day, but intending to be night, exclude the sky from the shot.

I don't see much other choice you have, otherwise it will look like day!

I don't know why the heck ya'll complain about viruses and crashes and cr**... I've used this computer every day for about 2 years straight without any problems whatsoever. I never get spyware, or adware, or bots or popups. Then again, maybe it's because I don't use limewire, P2P software, or downlo...

Yeah, as if a romantic song was being played on an old turntable, and something goes so terribly wrong you tear the needle off to stop the playing.

RE: First Post on Should A Director do his Own Cinematograph

Also, he's Swedish. :) Not only does it depend on the person, but also on the production value itself. You may not be able to seperate the tasks if you are an amateur filmmaker. You may not even be able to find a dependable producer. Knightly explained it pretty well. Basically, it is difficult to a...

Blanks are dangerous.

8mm round, point blank range. Note the burning powder went straight through both sides. Safety first.

Capturing HDV footage with Sony FX Cameras

This seems to be a universal problem left unsolved. Apparently, Sony's FX line of cameras came out too quickly on the market and there is no easy way to capture the HDV footage into Premiere Pro via firewire. I have been searching forums and support sites for months to no avail. Everybody seems to h...

maj_barnes, it would help if you could supply a few seconds of ambiance without the gunshots. That way in editing, all the background noise can be sampled, isolated, and removed, therefore leaving pure gunshot audio.

Of course the cheap ones are not actually bullet proof. The are look-alike replicas (toys) that are dirt cheap. Why don't we just buy the real ones? Because they cost around $300 USED.

Actually, in order to put a film on DVD with ease of space you should render your film in MPEG-2. A 6 minute film can be reduced from 1 gig .avi to 200mb MPEG-2. So generally this is what I'm doing and it keeps full quality. But Mpeg2 is a lossy compression format. You will lose quality. In actuali...

The most you can probably do, is import the footage into an audio editing program, sample the ambience, then isolate and remove it. It is easily done on Adobe Audition. Then you can normalize the track, and add in your own reverb. You can't really do much in Premiere, as it is a video editing progra...
