RE: help with a gun fight.

Are you looking for something long and drawn out, or something quick and to the point? If that's the case, I'd keep it simple - the drive by gets their heads down, they return fire, the car drives off. They then take off to get to their car, with the hitman hunting them and exchanging gunfire as the...

That was definitely one of the funnier exchanges I've seen around here. Just one question - is the sky simply graded footage you added in or did you create it from scratch? Also, with the cloned soldiers - I noticed the reason they look fake is because you've got your actors grouped in threes and fo...

I'll have to agree with Lawrie - the main criticism I have is with the music and cinematography. The piano made it seem like it was trying too hard to be artsy, while the shaky camera work made it seem too amateur. Hopefully the final version will include opening music that is much more poignant tha...

RE: chornobyl + pripyat

Yeah... it's not really secretive at all. A Google search will turn up a complete timeline of events, and there are several videos on Youtube shot by an Englishman being shown around the area by a Russian officer.

I forgot how funny this thread was. If the lamp is powerful enough to set something on fire, then unless it's dimmed it's going to wreck the shot by making it painfully obvious that you've got a lamp off camera.

Come up with an idea according to how the song makes you feel, or what you think of when you listen to the song. After that, plan it out shot for shot, as you won't be shooting coverage and editing two long strands of footage together or anything like that. This is one of those things where you 'edi...

RE: How to start your own Video Production Company -

That's true. I suppose that editing becomes less important as you take on more experienced clients, as they're usually not paying you to just dazzle them :) Most videographers in the US make roughly that amount of money - it's not a huge amount, but you get enough clients and you can at least pay th...

RE: How to start your own Video Production Company -

Only reason that didn't help me is because there's a few production companies around my home town that have pretty much the same story :) Also, this is a no-brainer, but when you're just starting out and doing small projects like graduation videos and and highlight reels, the caliber of your editing...

Daydreaming at work...

Just though I'd post this little machinima I made yesterday. Pretty simple premise - a guy daydreams while walking to work.

I like it. Good shots, and well done color correction. Just not a big fan of the CGI - comes off looking more fake than surreal.

When you develop the film, have them print it to tape so that you can record the footage directly onto your DV camera from the VCR.

You're not making any damned sense. You're wondering if there's any movies out there that's nothing but a bunch of shots of landscapes and s***?

So you're basically just asking if there's any movies with good cinemtography. Yes, there's many. Look at any Kubrick or Hitchcock film.

Right. A moving picture is exactly what a movie is.

Once again, Road to Perdition.

Road to Perdition and the Cowboy Bebop movie come to mind.

Yeah it's possible, you just gotta make sure that you (or your DP if you don't do your own camera work) has got the talent to make it happen.

aaron, remove the iron pipe from your nob before opening your mouth again. No, they're not real guns. The assault rifle is a cap gun, the others are blank firing guns with plugged barrels, designed specifically for movie/theatrical use. Honestly, try thinking before you go on another stupidity-fuele...

The Fag Out

I think this film is primarily an allegory on the dangers of prejudice in our current socio-political atmosphere.

But mostly I just wanted to waste some blanks.

I didn't shoot this (I wish I could've though) - I just edited this for a friend last year. Here's to hoping it doesn't doom me to an eternity at MTV.

Another TOTALLY badass machinima trailer (Half Life 2)

I'm still unable to make real movies, so I'm still having fun making Half Life 2 movies. Here's the trailer for my latest little flick, Zompocalypse Now 2:

The idea is that killers pull the trigger and wipe out a person in a second, so a seconds all it takes to wipe out a life of events. That's what I'm saying. The action of committing the murder took far too long to get your point across. Showing the footage of him as a kid could've been done beforeh...

Good idea, but if you want to show how quickly things can take that kind of a drastic change, it probably shouldn't be that slow. Besides, most of the implications and gravity of murder come from the aftermath of the act, beyond the thought that someone's life is ending.
