Grant, its nice to know that while we are all messing about with computer effects you are just blowing stuff up for real !! Unfortunately here in the UK that sort of stuff gets you in trouble. Even walking around Heathrow airport with a grenade is generally frowned upon. Film making is just another ...

How is the audio being recorded on the camera, 12bit or 16 bit ? Does it mess up on both ?

Does it play back ok from the camera to a tv ?

Anyone else's PC you can use to see if it is a problem with your Firewire card ?

Yeah that sounds ok. Each A4 template should cover a single A4 side. As long as all the templates are printed using the same technique you should be fine.

Green Screen Filming

Ok, I've got my camera now and I want to try doing some green screen effects. I bought some green material from a material shop. Luckily no one I knew saw me. Has anyone got any top tips for green screen filming ? Any web links to examples of green screen filming ? I chose green rather than blue bec...

Some where I should have the file that we used in MTL as Adam mentioned. Just had a quick flick through a few of my MTL back up CDs. Unfortunately there are 13 of the buggers and I haven't got time to look at the rest just yet.

I post the military music when I find it ....

Hello, glad you like the tutorial. At the top of the tutorial there is a link to a zip file A4 Zip File (100kb) This file contains the A4 templates as normal GIF pictures. These can be printed out on A4. The exact scale isn't vital as long as you print them out using the same method. Use any graphic...

I've edited the post to add hyperlinks to the files. Downloaded all tje files. I thought they were quite good. I think I prefered the nonose.mp3 stuff best. It was atmospheric and I could see it as mood music in a film. In the jan03 samples I think the back beat is slightly too loud and obscures the...

Have added A4 templates to the tutorial page.

Most of the parts fit onto an A4 sheet but 3 of the bigger parts don't. I have cut them up into pieces for reassembly once they are printed.

Hope this helps. Am very interested to see how everyone gets on making their AK47s !!!

I did think of doing an A4 version because I realised not everyone would be able to print A3 (I can only do it at work). If you have got CorelDraw you may be able to take the template file and transfer the shapes onto A4 sized pages. If it causes people big problems I may go ahead and do an A4 versi...

hello, The templates should be printed on A3 paper. Just checked the tutorial and I don't make that very clear. Opps. Will update now. I would recommend making one first because there are a few tricky bits you probably want to try before mass producing them :) The hardest bit is the barrel assembly ...

Most of the dangerous stuff me and Adam have done wasn't in front of a camera unfortunately. Like the time Adam tried the "stick a match in an empty bottle of meths" experiment. The bottle was completely empty appart from a load of meths vapour. Nice explosion. Camping will never quite be ...

I've been on the look out for a timecode overlay. I always thought it was a feature that Adobe Premiere should provide. I've looked on the web assuming that someone somewhere must have spent the time to produce one but without any luck. Anyone fancy having a go? If I can find the time I might try an...

Have a look at VCDHelp.com I use a program called Smartripper to extract the data from a DVD and then a program called TMPGEnc to convert to VCD. This program could also be used to extract particular scenes in a variety of formats. VCDHelp is probably the best site out there for this sort of stuff a...

I read it ...

I agree that MPEG1 is fairly universal although it is now 'old technology' in the codec world.

I used MPEG1 for the MTL clips because I knew it would have the biggest audience possible then.

It depends on what version of Adobe Premiere you use. If you have got 6.5 then one of the best ways is to use the built in Windows Media Encoder to produce a WMV file. I use the predefined 256k setting. See my clips in the Hollow Point section. I create the MTL video clips using Adobe Premiere 5.1. ...

3DS is indeed for 3D animation and rendering. Similar to Lightwave. Combustion is more geered to adding particle effects. It is particularly good for fire, smoke, explosions etc. You can do 3D work and particle stuff in either but they are better at certain things. I have used Combustion to add part...

To be honest once some thing is on film it is difficult to tell whether it was filmed illegally or not. Obviously if the act resulted in any damage or injuries then capturing it on film may consitute evidence. Usually common sense dictates what is a good idea and what isn't. I agree copyright is pro...

I assume you would use a funnel and pour the mixture into the balloon. The weight of the mixture would make the balloon expand. A bit like making a 'water bomb'. But messier obviously :D
