What about if I add a 'Tutorials' forum (at the same level as General, Special Effects, Announcements etc). People can link post links to tutorials as they find them. As long as people used a sensible title we could build up a collection of good stuff ? If the titles are descriptive people can do a ...

hanasand, your right about pirate software. Obviously I can't stop people downloading stuff from iMesh, Kazaa, Directconnect, eDonkey etc but the forum can't support or encourage it. Everyone must be responsable for aquiring their own software according to the relevant laws in their country. As for ...

Yep thats exactly what you can do. If you've got well planned script it may help speaking a description of the scene before you film it "this scene 1, shot 1, take 2" This will give you valuable info when you are trying to work out what section of sound is meant to go where. Use a clapper ...

As MarkA87 sadi your only option if you haven't got a mic input is to record sound seperately onto a DAT tape, mini disc or something like that.

Putting it all back won't be easy if you've got a load of footage and a load of seperate sound. Matching it all up could be extremely challenging!

On the 'shooting myself clip' I used a brief flash of 'brightness' in Premiere to illuminate the whole scene.

In the AK clip I was too lazy. I think this really makes the gun flash look a bit rubbish. When I do it in the film I'll put a bit more effort into it.

Having you tried holding down the ALT key and then dragging the timeline marker left to right ? That tends to actually show stuff in the preview window that it doesn't bother with normally.

ie the bits you are usually interested in previewing !!

Photoshop

A number of you guys are mentioning "do it in Photoshop". I tend to use Paintshop Pro for graphics related stuff.

Are you saying that Photoshop lets you edit frames within a video file ? I assume this must be the case if you can use it for light sabres etc.

Any info would be appreciated.

I would assume that "1/3 time" is where you throw away 2 frames record 1 frame. This would give you a jerky effect. If you filmed someone walking they would start to look very strange.

DMA is usually enabled via your operating system via control panel or something like that but it depends on what flavour of Windoze you are running. I think even within XP there are different ways of doing depending on which version you have got. Crazy but true !

What version of Windows have you got?

I have converted som Xvid stuff to VCD. It is similar to DivX. To start with I had enormous problems with audio sync. The picture was ok but the sync was out by a mile (just like in GUTS :)) I solved this by using Goldwave audio editor. I loaded the Xvid into Goldwave which ignored the video bit but...

I would love to attend your Premiere but alas its a bit far :( Can I send a couple of replacements? I know a couple of people in Oz. Not sure how close they are to you. I'll email them. What are you using the author the VCD? I would agree with Adam that those sort of problems are usually due to the DVD player not liking the flavour of CDR you are using.

Try a using CDRW as well.

hanasand, liked the clip. What did you do the bullet in? 3D studio ?

Haven't seen Matrix 2 yet. Going to see it next week probably. It looks good and the reviews are good. Looking forward to it. If makes me smile like the lobby scene did when I saw the first film then it will be money well spent !

Get hold of a decent sound editing program like Goldwave. Record your sound as a normal wave file using a microphone or whatever. Resample it at a low sample rate to simulate the bandwidth of a phone (ie 3khz ish). Add a noise filter if available. That may give you a phone effect. Its all about thro...

True, but if you use the Smartripper > DVD2AVI > TMPegEnc technique you can encode the DVD stuff into a more edit friendly format.

A flavour of AVI maybe, or even DV. Then you can play with it like any other footage.

I tend to use the co-ordinate numbers to make sure the motion points are in the same place ... but that isn't much help. It always puzzled me and Adam why the hell Adobe didn't make those preview windows a decent size. At least give you the option of making them bigger.

Fair point. Because I used a muzzle flash every 2 frames for 10 seconds there were lots of them! Not sure if there would be an easy way to keep them inline with the barrel other than position each one by hand. If I used this sort of effect for real it would only be seen for a few seconds so I suppos...

(DVD is MPEG2, whereas VCD is MPEG1)

Good idea Blade.

Check out the DVD ripping tutorials on DVDrHelp

You should be able to use Smartripper then DVD2AVI then TMPEGENc to get clips from any DVD movie.

The above web site should tell you everything you need to know.

Thanks for that fantastic cut and paste job. A web link would have done. Shame you later claim you authored all that yourself rather than ripping it of someone elses site. Spelling sort of gives it away don't you think? ie there aren't any mistakes :P

You really need to learn the difference between 'there' and 'their'. Stop worrying about lights and worry about why your parents never bought you a dictionary. Anyway for everyone else out there a sensible answer :) So far I've never needed additional lighting. I was thinking of buying a load of sec...
