I've found that Goldwave is a very good recorder and stereo editor. You can find it at http://www.goldwave.com . The latest version is 4.26, It will also rip sound directly from CD's which is useful.

Can't you just use windows Sound Recorder?

The Creative Wav studio is available for free from their website I think. That is fairly good for basic wav recording/editing.

This allowed me to fit 100 minutes onto an 80 minute CDR. The quality wasn't significantly lower and it allowed me to get a whole film onto one disc, no...

Allthough it doen'y allow all the control that matt's process does, DVDbackup is a good all in one allternative. (The only extra you need is something like NERO to actually burn the disk)

Producing a 5.1 sound track

To produce a 5.1 sound track you can use Stienberg Cubase SX. It retails for £499 but you can find to download. It only works with Windows 2000/XP.

I presume you are trying to do this using some sort of photo editing software which allows you some primitive video clip facilities. Using something like Corel Photo Paint you could write a macro which would speed up the resizing and insertion of individual frames. BUT !! dont bother just use a NLE ...

How much video on a VideoCD ???

How much video can you fit on a VideoCD? Someone told me it depends on the bit rate but I'm not sure.

The latest version of adobe premiere is 6.1 but the main difference (others are mainly cosmetic ) between this and previous versions is the native support for DV. If you don't keed or want you could try and get hold of a previous version which might be cheaper.

Why Adobe Premiere?

Most of the stuff on this site seems to focus on Adobe Premiere. Is Adobe Premiere that much better than other editing packages? Why don't you do more stuff with any of the other packages on the market?

I can't afford Premiere it is too expensive :P
