I think thats rather conservative Padrino, I agree completely that most sex scenes are gratuitous (mind you isn't most sex haha) - i think the kind of sex scenes people are talking about are different to an extent. In this forum folk talking about sex are asking about its implementation in mostly ad...

Sex and nudity is perfectly natural in film too though, just not usually for most of the adolescents to use it in their first / early films lol because there simply sexually and emotionally immature. The older you get the more comfortable most filmmakers get with sex (unless you are some kind of ext...

Rhys finding a bar to film in is one of the EASIEST of locations for a film, if you think thats challenging you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to filmmaking!

Oh that script that won is a bit terrible though (no offence zac im sure you didn't write it intending it to be a masterpiece) i mean the foxwood one and darkelastic ones are far far more serious contenders?!

More like a scene from a movie than a very effective short film - also it is a cliche of enooormous magnitude (one im guilty off too) for having the ol' short film follow a captured dude (ala chair) getting tortured - in scene like dialogue hehe

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Sex - (Ye

Yeah i mean ive never seen any films bar 1812 hehe John Groshko's film (with an uber cheesy sexy scene) on matts with sex scenes anyway. Like somebody said, most the guys here are teenagers, adolescents many of them - in fact even worse - adolescent/teenage filmmakers the most unbankable of sex star...

Yeah im very surprised though about your multicam shoots - even big budget films often use 1 camera systems now, with multis for big effects shots etc etc, your better sticking to 1 progressive (native 16:9 xl2) than swapping between all these models. In the end of the day its not about time saved (...

thats my boy ;)

But still there is no competition for interlace vs progressive though - interlace only exists for the sake of traditional televisions - nothing else so i can't imagine why else you would shoot interlace unless it was going through a pretty unfiltered process straight to tv.

The Sony probably looked a little bit better there simply cos it wasn't blowing out the skies so much, otherwise its interlace looked pretty icky on that moving ball. The XL2 i think was the best at 30p however, when you have a hard light like that bearing down Kene learn to use your neutral density...

RE: perfect actors

Plus i already told ya videofx that acting for film is not about realism - its about the illusion of realism - most folks are convinced by that version of reality hence why they dont demand 'realism' as we experience it off the screen. So theres no law against you having actors poo or pee in a toile...

Yeah video, but point is actors don't have a cr** voice they save for student films or anything - its cos most folks are using their friends / and or student actors inexperienced etc. Hence the dear in the headlights look and robot voice acting lol. There is no fake theatrical acting or soap star ac...

NOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo!!!! It's not even remotely that simple!!! - It's also completely wrong what your saying!!! When your acting you have to ACT - ESPECIALLY when you are acting as if you are not acting. Acting is a professional skill, the reason actors can be bad are more often because they are s...

Here is another UK film forum (matt's is more fun tho)

This is supposed to be a forum catering to scottish filmmakers (but hell anyone can join obviously.) I don't run this or anything but it might be an interesting additional thing to check out from time to time! HOWEVER it does have a very different vibe to matts, so check it out see what you think! w...

RE: Shooting a Different Language

Now thats something I haven't done! Good luck with that though, of course in the end of the day the quality of their performances you may find is more in the way they move and express themselves, etc (but thats from theatre) than the exact words their saying (that you'll know anyway from a script) b...

Well its mainly on the composer now, but probably about 2 - 3 weeks (i mean its up to him more or less now, we've really just got to try and tweak the sound (which is better than this compression obviously) but is still weakest part tho, annnnd new improved graphic titles and completed credits :)

Ich problem is the colour one is a bit iffy now, the grading is well a little incoherent sometimes. Like stills can look good but watching it as a whole it seems to lack any one style - (ie a big mess) which the b&w seemed to kinda resolve (like a blunt disciplinarian) Making it B&W is somet...

Yep well to be honest this production was rather a disaster to start with so in terms of style, the one here (ie fairytale like) is definatlely the style we're after. The theatrical dialogue and fancy phrasing etc, was on our first showing (with about half the film) laughed out of court by my studen...

Yeah i should point out that the compression does make the sound more tinny than it should be - but i would say the weak point at the mo is sound - the syncing isn't perfect either (it just won't be sadly aieee) lol Agreed on the b&w its my fav but jeez a b&w student film (that would be the ...

The Suicide Artist - Download Early Version - Input, ideas:)

You remember my film 'The Suicide Artist' Well, there are 2 versions, one in b&w and one in colour - the colour one is still being worked on - and so is the custom soundtrack. The graphic titles are just temps thrown in (they will be fancy and animated - the end credits are incomplete too.) This...

I think your threads interesting there foxwood, but i think the topic is a little wayward (a lot of the style answers seems to be more about shot composition, lighting and well cinematography.) If you talk about the style of a director, its really a question or not of firstly whether there trying to...
