RE: VFX attemt: massive battle sequence

Between talent and camera there's an air (unless you're shooting in cosmic space). The further the object is thelest contrast it has, the less it's visible. It's best seen in extreme wide shots ex. mountains or buildings of city scape - the closest ones are perfect visible and the furthest are just ...

RE: VFX attemt: massive battle sequence

As a test footage it's not bad.
Place emiters out of frame because apearing of "warriors" is seen and shoot more different footages of "warriors" - the all move the same way.

EDIT: Change the "sun" - it should be directional light.

RE: need help for our 1st short movie

Light it well - buy at least one cheap garden hallogen. Use large pieces of styrofoam or any othe large white plane as a reflector. Use tripod also. Remember about white balance. It must be kept at the same leve through the whoile movie. If first shot would be wrongfully balanced you'd have to shoot...

RE: Blending Mode in After Effects in Photoshop

It's the same as in Photoshop. Try to read in PS manual. Generaly blending mode mean the mathematical action which is usem with tho analogic pixel of two layers. Ex. if top layer has blending mode set to normal - nothing happens but if you change it to multiply the RGB values of pixels of top layer ...

Re: RE: Will this work? Compositing.

In this business there's no such thing as wasted time. Only trying and training makes the master.

Robot in Sky Captain were ful CGI so they had transparency already. There was no need to masking the "front" legs.

Masking fast moving cars is difficult beacause they are blured.

Great job. Did you get inspiration from "Dead pool" chase sequence? Camera works and editing are OK. But you could make it shorter - it's about 1/3 too long. Those silent parts don't fit a little.During the first shot from POV of car (45 second of film) there's a "scary sound" - ...

I use pole made of telescope painting pole (about 5$) and cheap directional microphone Yoga (about 50$) plugged into camera. Quality is good for my needs right now although I could use a sound mixer.

RE: Why film cameras?

You see this is not only about quality or money. This is about "feeling", the matter of picture. It's like a difference between of 30 years old Hammond B3 and digital keyboard by Roland or Korg. You can't recreate this sound with digital tool. Imitate only.

Find some abandoned quarry. There was few westerns made in Poland (comedies or indies mostly) . In the last one they built only one side of the street in the town. After shooting part of takes it was redecorated a bit (signs and extras were replaced, some wheelcarts added etc) and shoot in oposite d...

"Poor man's"? Who told you this bullshit? AE and PS are well respected tools. Order free CD with AE video lessons and watch demo reels - many profesional companies use this soft and make special effect and opening credits for tv shows and movies. I don't know Shake. Combution for me is not...

RE: Making An Army Out Of Ten Extras

Use close angles and make lot of cuts. In long shots and wide angles it won't work. Of course you can make few composed shots with CG cloning but zombie movie with all steady shots would be boring. Change shots as frequently as possible ex: hero looks left: there are zombies, hero looks right: more ...

Mix potassium nitrate (KNO3) with sugar. Outdoor only. Be carefull- it makes high temperature (it could melt through the tin can). When I was a kid it was my favourite toy (and shooting with calcium carbide :D )

AE is not an editing software but composing. Chromantor is a toy for beginers - AE is for proffesionals and thats fact. Of course - if somebody can't use chromantor's possibilities - he doesn't need AE.
