Im not too familiar with tailslating, but my guess is that you do it after every shot. If it's footage you just thought up, yes you do write it. Since, if you are using a slate, which probably means more than one camera, you should be organized, meaning you have a shot list, storyboards, script, the...

It depends, but usually I could care less about a trailer packed with action. If it's a sequel anything can work, as long as you don't show too much. In my opinion, less is better. Have some good music, different shots, as little dialogue as possible. For amateur films; -Get your name out of there. ...

Depends on how good you plan on making it. Sure, it's possible to make a feature in six months, but it's not easy. On your level (assuming your not working with producers, casting directors, screenwriters, stroryboard artists, etc) it would not be easy, and the end result would probably not be very goo...

Actually I decided not to go with mini disc. I have heard the quality is not tremendously better than what my camera can record. Im spending that money on a better mic.

Well tape wouldn't cut it, since you would get too many shakes. I have found some reasonable deals on the internet, so hopefully I will be in buisness

Thanks for all your help!

Yeah, I already did research on minidics. Being cheap I was actually looking for a cheaper route, but decided to settle on it. Check out http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=1001417&navigationPath=n32120n46922...

External audio recording

Hi, Im doing a short film this summer, and decided to invest in some decent audio equipment. I'll be picking up a shotgun mic, and a boompole or something along those lines, but I want to record the audio seperate from the camera, since I will be using two cameras. Now, I barely have a budget, so I ...

Don't attempt to buy a film camera because you will end up broke and with nothing. Sure, you can get an older 16mm arriflex for the price of a high end consumer camera, but thats just the beginning. You have to buy film, get that processed, and I assume transfered back to mindv, vhs or whatever. Plu...

For inspiration try Rodriguez's Rebel Without A Crew , or any filmmaker biography. For techniques and knowledge, I don't know any, because I don't bother with them. I have read about 20 biographies, rebel without a crew, breaking in, a book about sundance, and thats about it. They are great, but Id ...

Locked In!

Haven't been on here in a while, but this is the place I want to first announce it. It's been about a year since my last short film (I have been working on short documentaries, writing, and school) I decided I need to get back in the habit. "Locked In" is a short film about a young man who...

Can anyone compose some decent music, for a short film under

I can't pay you, but I would be willing to
-Design you a website
-Make you a flash, animated .gif, or just regular banner

Im not looking for anything spectacular, just something decent. If you are intrested, contact me at matt@panmodoproductions.tk. Oh and yes, your name will be in the credits

You can go right to your computer through firewire. Just hook up your camera to the vcr, like you have done and also plug it into your camera using firewire. If you don't have a firewire port on your camera/computer you will have to get an analog capture card, and then you can just capture right thr...

Couldn't you have just said the films that get to your emotions? Saving Private Ryan is not really emotional, unless you actually served in World War II, but I did find the beginning and end emotional.

Magnificent to me is something that just looks stunning, like Citizen Kane or Seventh Samurai.

I was going to get a dual layer burner, but then I discovered it's almost impossible to find dual layer discs right now. Both systems will do fine, you don't need to spend an extra $1000 just for a few things that will make your job a little smoother (unless you do lots of 3d rendering). -If your do...

I mainly use premiere 6.5. I have tried other programs like vegas, and I like premiere much more. I use this in combination with after effetcs and photoshop.

Some of you people should keep off the downloads, you don't have to have $20 000 worth of software.

It's a great program. I recommend doing the tutorials for sure, they helped me. Once you get the hang of the program, it's really easy to use and you can make some good looking stuff. Im more artistic so I would rather do this that code in html
