if you are gonna put one of those cheap little windscreens on that come with cheap mics usually, its pretty much pointless. if you want good protection from the wind, your gonna need a good one, sometimes known as a zeppelin if im not mistaken. they are those ones you see on professional movies that...

you just gotta think about this question logically. are you actually gonna build a set of an alleyway? probably not. if its your friend's restaurant, why dont you just ask him for permission to film there? or just go ahead and film. unless maybe youre killing someone and it looks real to someone, pe...

i tried this effect with a low end JVC mini dv camcorder, and it wasn't that hard at all to pull off. i had to use a little wheel but i was surprised how easy it was. the objects were very close to each other though and im sure this plays a part in the ease of it all.

its overrated. too many people use it. that supposedly "professional' touch doesn't matter. its not going to make your movie any better or worse. if i were to do something like it, i would use the bars like ornsack said, unless i could shoot true 16:9 without just stretching the image.

It it is an interesting book, but not that great for teaching.
as a filmmaker, i dont think you should be taught how to do anything, except for maybe working equipment. teach yourself and your own style will show through more. it is a great book.

comparing cameras

I'm looking to buy a pretty cheap camera while I'm saving up to buy a better one. Right now, I've narrowed it down to 3: Sony Trv-19 Canon ZR-65 JVC GR-DV500 Anyone used any of these cameras, know if theyre good or not, etc? or if not, does anyone have any suggestions which brands they think are bet...

We've used squibs quite a bit in our latest movie "Dead Rose." We too worked a long time on getting our squibs good. For a switch, all that you need is 2 wires, some E-match model rocket igniters, and supposedly, you can use a 9-volt battery, but I've always needed something more powerful ...

a Neutral Density lens is good to have. most higher end cameras have them i think. their purpose is to get a better depth of field on exterior shots if im not mistaken.

thats part of our job as low budget movie makers. if theres a will, theres a way. ive done a shooting in public before, with explosive bullet hits and fake guns and everything. nothing went wrong, but theres always a chance. i guess you just gotta know if youre willing to take the chance or not.

ive entered our first film "Crimson Duel" in about 5 or 6 film festivals. We won for best student feature in the CRI film fest, and got a special achievement in student filmmaking award at the Wild Rose Ind. Film Fest. Also, at the IMPA awards, we were one of 5 kinda 2nd place achievement ...
