Depends entirely on parts and features. If you buy using a site like newegg.com, it may be cheaper.

RE: My bad experience

Buy a PC and get Vegas 5, the most user friendly NLE I have ever used. It also has the best simplicity to features ratio of the many professional level editors out there. The best part is that it has won Videomaker's Best NLE award 2 years running, and can do many of the things FCP can do only in a ...

RE: The Vietcong (my Vietnam film) Restoration Project

I liked it. The music was effective, and the slow motion shots were well placed. There were a few editing/sound errors and some awkward moments (same shots twice, the flag randomly appearing in the background), but it was good overall.

I agree, even if you're tempted to make something before you have footage, don't. You don't have to prove that you're making something, as long as you keep us updated that's fine.

RE: ResidentEvil Search and Destroy teaser trailor

It was ok, simple, but it gives a preview.

3 issues:

The gun shots at the beginning were a little redundant
I absolutely hate the second song you used, but that 100% opinion lol
You may want to cut that picture out next time rather than using a gray background

Does AE have an option for individual clip settings? If so, see if you can set it to 16x9 (or 1.21)

Are we talking downtown Baghdad here or just a small tribal village? If it's the 2nd one you could try biuilding a rough square shell with plywood and then smear mud on the outside. When it dries it should look something like the concrete substance many poorer Iraqis use to make their houses.

It's better to start out w/ 24 p than to put regular video through a bunch of filters (slowly degrading teh quality as you go). The best thing to do is to get a DVX100A or and XL2. But as far as the film look, the DVX100A has a better cine-gamma mode, so the footage from that cam looks the most like...

RE: Audio Formats

I usually prefer .Wav for my video projects as it is uncompressed and offers the best sound. However, I recently transfered my entire CD library over to my computer and I used the Windows Media Audio Lossless codec, which is basically a regular wma file but 10-15 times the size because it is uncompr...

Yeah, some of Hitler's forces were extremely young. There was an episode in Band of Brothers where the one character panics when he sees he shot a 14 or 15 year old who tried to shoot him first. And the youngest I've ever heard of for the US side joining the Army during WWII was in fact 16, and youn...

Yeah, you can find a tommy gun lots of places... toy stores, party supply stores, costume stores, etc. But they will look really fake and crappy, so some painting and modification will be in order. Just be creative and it should look fine, and depending on how it comes out, just try not to have a re...

RE: Nightmares

The one thing I have learned from many recent horror movies (ie: The Grudge) is that even though what is on the screen should scare you, it usually doesn't. I have concluded that this is because of 2 things: 1. Most scare strategies have been done before, there is a serious lack of innvovative scare...

Yeah, big rip-off of Darkness Falls. But, if you do decide to run with it, just keep in mind that Darkness Falls was possibly the worst excuse for a horror movie I have ever seen, EVER, so try to be as original and innovative as you can, and it may turn out quite well (it all depends on the atmosphe...

Ever hear of academic discounts?

www.studica.com
www.journeyed.com
www.academicsuperstore.com

These companies are only good in the US though, but Studica is US and Canada.

PS: Studica has Premiere Pro for $198.95 USD, nowhere near $500

It may degrade the quality slightly, but in the case that you plan to show it on a widescren TV it would look very awkward with a 4x3 image in the center and bars on the bottom and top of that. However, if you can get a physical adapter for the camera, 16x9 is the best way to go by far.

Well I export all my sstuff as a DV AVI file 1st, and burn that onto a data-DVD for archiving, so that way, the project doesn't have to stay on my HD and I can re-import if I ever have to make a change. 30 MB Free file hosting service

Stumbled on this today, 30 MB uploads (approx), and a limitless amount of downloads. You can host as many files as you want. There is a bandwidth limit on the files, but I think it's pretty high. The speed is really fast too. The only drawback is that you have to download via the hosting service's p...
