RE: Blue light gels

A CTB (Color Temperature Blue) Gel. You can get them in varied intensities, for example full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc. You can pick up an assorted CTB pack, or you can get a Tungsten-Daylight conversion pack. If all you really want is a CTB gel, it's probably a better idea to just buy a sheet of it. You ...

your better doingit in post in case you dont want it, there should be no/ little quality loss. There is quality loss through any post processing (though minimal). Unless you render out uncompressed every time, you will lose quality compressing each time to DV. Ideally, you could do all post process...

Re: RE: frame rates

i dont understand how you could separate the feilds to get a full frame from just half of the picture, or 1 feild? Effectively, you're just separating the fields, and doubling each set of fields to create two whole frames from one interlaced frame. It's a loss in resolution, but you will undoubtedl...

I'm going to side with Lawriejaffa on this. His criticism was in no way harsh, and in fact, was constructive. Get over your ego, and listen to what others have to say. If you post a film, you will get positive and negative feedback. Use both to your advantage. Suck it up and deal with it. I'm sick o...

Yes, you can have a film strip in Photoshop and edit it frame-by-frame. What part don't you understand?

It's gimmicky psuedo cr** that you should probably stay away from. But it's completely your call. If you like it, use it. Don't let us tell you what to do.

the reason we cannot get the same depth of field on dv is because when the light passes through the lense it goes through a series of three prisms. these totally screw that up for us. Not to mention the smaller the CCDs, the harder it will be to acheive a shallow depth of field. The tiny chips in o...

If you pay attention to the depth of field in each shot, you can typically get a good estimate of the focal length.

It's not even worth investing in anything less than MiniDV these days. MiniDV cameras are so cheap now, there is no point in using sub-par equipment because you're "poor." You can even get a MiniDV camera for $300 these days. VHS-C, Hi8, Digital 8, etc. It's all old technology. Don't waste...

Have you tried running a head cleaner through the camera? That may not solve the problem, but it's certainly a start.

RE: Dracula Has Risen From The Grave To Steal Your Drugs

Pretty funny. The self-groping seemed a bit long and dragged out. When the coffin is opened, you can see what appears to be a hand in the corner of the frame. Small fixes here and there. Not much creative cinematography or camera work, but an overall good effort.

Any camera is capable of shooting a "film." The PD150, however, is exceptional in this area. In fact, more films have been shot on a PD150 than have been on an XL1s. Check out the list below: http://www.imdb.com/SearchTechnical?CAM:Sony%20DSR-PD150 Two films to definitely check out are &qu...

Tiffen filters aren't the best. In fact, they're only a notch above generic brand filters. Hoya and B&W are far superior.

You seem to be trying too hard to follow the rules. While they are important to know, they should be seen more as "guidelines" rather than "rules." They are not meant to be interpretted word for word. Try to find your own style, and experiment until you find what you like. Pay cl...

Actually, PAL MiniDV, if it's anything like NTSC MiniDV, records 4:1:1. The new HDV cameras do record 4:2:0 though; you are correct in that.

It makes the highlights, midtones, and shadows "pop" so to speak. It gives more "punch" to the image.
