Well I don't have sony vegas 6 but I presume you can screen things. It's easy you get a clip or picture of a muzzle flash, move the track over the base track and line up the muzzle flash. Then you screen your muzzle flash to get rid of the black background. Alternatively you could take a freze frame...

In some games some of the boojects have an odd exaggerated glow... If you wanted it to look like on the old games it would be easier, just a bit of tweaking with the colour, some pixillation and wacky music (I have old Mario games in mid )
