Thnx for the feedback, it's been great. We shot some of the film on an Xl-1 and some of it (such as the kitchen dream scene) on a panasonic pvgs120. As for the hardy boys, I'm not talking about the wrestlers, I'm talking about the Hardy Boys mystery books by Franklin Dixon (the wrestlers are named a...

First Action Film: Law and Disorder

This is my first action film, entitled Law and Disorder, we finished it about 2 weeks ago. When i say action, i use it liberally, it's more of an action-comedy, but there are some fairly well choreographed fight scenes. Enjoy. Any feedback would be appreciated. http://video.google.com/videoplay?doci...

Napoleon Dynamite was a student film project that was originally shot on a minimum budget for roughly 20,000 dollars, as smokeythebear correctly put it. However, after it won a film festival, it's creators received a grant and production backing from larger studios, and it was reshot with 400,000 (a...

This "blurring" of the background or foreground is called shallow depth of field (dof). Video cameras have huge depth of field, so most things appear in focus, whereas actual film looks so good because of it's shallow depth of field and soft appearance. One way to recreate this effect is t...

RE: Depth of Field- The Film Look

If you want to go really guerilla and you are lighting a wide shot, if you have a car, then flipping on the cars headlights can mean the difference between a bad shot and a mediocre one. If you want to go for a different look, flip on your high beams. Beyond that, carry a couple extension cords.

Depth of Field- The Film Look

I find that the look that everyone wants (the film look) but finds hard to describe and achieve is attainable through three things. Number 1- proper framing follow the rule of thirds and compose your shots like a pro. Noone wants to see all master shots or all closeups or jittery footage. Think holl...

RE: Cheap camera

canon zr model 80, 100, or 200... you could find one of the earlier models on ebay for around that, it's a decent camera that should fit your basic needs. You can't expect too much for that price range.

if i put up the original footage you'd see the magic bullet at work, it balanced out a lot of shots and gave us a crisper image. As for the buzzing, are you talking about the hallway scene where he picks up april? that was the fluorescent light overhead, and it's been killing me, but if you're talki...

First Film I Ever Made

My friend and i recently re-edited one of our films. We ran it through magic bullet, cleaned up some of the audio, and all that jazz. This was the very FIRST film i ever made, and it is what sparked me to keep making films. I hope you guys like it, and annny feedback would be appreciated. http://www...

the effects were not bad, not as bad as i might have expected. The best one was by far the "yeti's" perspective with the red tint and what looked like warp + motion blur. good job

when the killer leaves the hero in the "inescapable" situation, make a longgass speech about "Im going to do this this and this, but YOU wont be around to see it, hahahaha", just make it ridiculous.

now there's some creative criticism.... "you know very little about film making". If you're the expert, then why don't you toss out a suggestion other than "you dont know s***", cuz if it were me, it wouldn't be all that inspiring to go make another film. As for the forum topic, ...

Here's something to think on. The REASON the shells have propellant is so that they aren't anywhere near you when they go off. Consider that, and for your sake, find an alternative.

thats because when you're exporting or importing you've chosen to play the fields in the wrong order or youve chosen "progressive" when you shot interlaced. Find out if your camera shoots the lower or upper field first, and when exporting and importing, make sure the frame/field options ma...

pretty good films, i like your style. The only thing (and it got better in the second movie) was that your guys would be firing from the same handgun (u managed with the rifles) and they'd never change clips. There was one scene where your hero man fired off like 2 dozen rounds and then just kept go...

there are lots of people who have split personalities cuz of their jobs. Take a cop or lawyer for example, home life is completely different from their work life and they have to be pretty much a different person. If you want to do that sort of thing, get a lawyer or a cop who meets this girl on the...
