save your money and add the blowback slide in the postproduction. It is as simple as cutting out a rectangle containing the slide, then edit it in photoshop and put it back onto the timeline. Remember, it's only one frame, so it isn't a big lot of work.

I am trying to get some kind of movie look by reducing the color saturation and slightly amplifying the green channel, plus by adding a little more contrast.

But usually I am not sure if this is really a god idea, or if it's only a style fashion that will be dead in a year or two.

Problems with Miniature Fires is always the dimension of flames will tell the audience that it's a model. Your trees may look good, but the flames wont. you can cheat a little.
