@insert_coin: What do you mean? Where is he talking about cloning keyframes?! For the normal lightsaber effect he´s suggesting the same thing like you do, duplicate the first layer of your sword wehre you did all the rotoscoping work and then just apply the feathering to the mask, that´s it. A...

I don´t wanna sound rude or something, but from judging the shots in your tutorial the glow does not look too convincing at all. Everyone who´s thinking about adding the famous lightsaber effect to his movie I can only recommend one website: www.ryan-w.com That guy has worked out a pretty cool...

Rotoscoping means that you place an animated mask around the subject of interest to delete everything but that subject. That way you can separate the person lying on the bed for example from it´s background. You can do rotoscoping (meaning applying animated masks) in After Effects for example. In...

Let´s just say there was a SLIGHT misunderstanding from both sides ;)

I never tested that cross dissolve transition so I thought it might work as you stated.

So anyway, rotoscoping is the way of choice.

You need to mask out the rest of the background you don´t want to show up. Apply one or masks to the greenscreen footage and set them tu subtraction so they remove everything they mask.

Ah now I think I get what you´re talking about. I missed the part where you told him to use cross dissolve as a transition in premiere, I was always under the impression you were just talking about the transparency settings in Premiere, not a transition. So sorry for any confusion, I stand correc...

That´s what I meant. I don´t say to put the falling guy footage below the lying one. Even if you have the falling one on top and make that transparent (using the opacity settings) you would partially see the empty background and as this is above the footage from the lying guy, it would seem th...

One thing strikes while reading your suggestions is that if you just put the "standing up" footage above the "lying around" one and decrease opacity would result in having the lower footage to also look transparent. The moment you stand up in footage 2 you have an empty bed or ba...

Hi, I´m not familiar with that version, I started with C4D XL 7 and recently upgraded to C4D R8. But still C4D Vers. 5 should do a nice job. Check my greenscreening thread I posted yesterday, the scene you see there was rendered with mostly standard settings and no extra plugins or whatever. So d...

If you have After Effects, you could just duplicate the footage, apply some color changes, add the glow filter, tweak it where neccessary and then rotoscope your "phantom" actor, so he´s the only thing that is affected by the phantom effect. Another try would be to duplicated the footag...

Thx! I used Cinema4D für the 3D stuff. The model is called Deathstar2 and can be downloaded for free from http://scifi3d.theforce.net . They have all kinds of 3D models mostly in 3D Studio Max format but also quite a few .3DS conversions to use in other 3D programs. I did the lightsabers in After...

Create a new color layer above the footage and apply an animated mask on it for only the eye-areas, set it´s transfer mode to screen or add and you´re about done.

How to accomplish these few steps can be read in AE´s manual.

Redscreens would only make sense if you are not planning to shot scenes with human actors. Red interferes heavily with human skin tones and would be a pain in the a** to key out. That´s why they use green and blue, they´re the opposite tones to skin colors and therefore better to be used. If y...

I don´t know about Combustion, never used it. But tracking your hands manually shouldn´t be a problem. The AE Lightning Effect is moving all the time so you just need to track your hands roughly to match the starting and ending point to at least come somewhere from your hand. Of course it depe...

Eeeer... right... do that. Or why not just use After Effects Lightning Effect? You just have to animate the Start and End point to fit the motion of your fingers and play around with the effect of the lightning bolt itself a bit and you´re set... No need to get hurt *g*

Actually I don´t have the time right now to explain it here in-depth, but here´s a tutorial for cloning in after effects, maybe it´s of help to you: http://www.durbnpoisn.com/films/clonetut/index.asp You definitely need a program like After Effects or similar to work with animated masks. Pr...

I don´t think so. Premiere is not exactly an special effects program of that kind. So to speak it does not have the ability to use masks at all. You will need a compositing package mentioned like after effects or one of the other ones (combustion should be mentioned I think, though I never used i...

Well if you have a perfectly green or blue background and your footage of the bullet is uncompressed, using Premiere´s blue/greenscreen function should do the job just fine! Another way would be to render yor bullet in max and include the alpha channel in the AVI so you can use Premiere´s alph...

There is also a possibility to use panning in a clone shot. If you shoot both versions of yourself doing something from different angles without moving the camera (tripooood) you can use After Effect´s 3D Layer capabilities to still match both shots and use a virtual 3D camera to do the pan. That...
