RE: Anyone here done any documentarys????

Try thinking about about any local legends that could make interesting subject matter, or perhaps any unsolved crimes or mysterious murders etc. I made a documentary about the murder of a woman in a local graveyard some years back and the true culprit still hasn't been found. So I put a slight twist...

You guys need to learn how to sew or preferably get a girlfriend who is good at making clothes and sewing. I know that sounds sexist, but the fact remains that many females are good at this kind of thing and actually enjoy it. Alternatively, find someone you know who can sew, provide them with the m...

You cannot change the frame rate as such but you have two shooting mode options, normal and frame. 1.Normal mode: By combining Canon's superior lens quality with 3 CCD's, the GL2 delivers stunning resolution and colour reproduction. The Movie Mode set to normal records crisp, high-quality interlaced...

One of the cameras I have is a XM2 and it is a fantastic piece of equipment for amatuer filmmaking. I have never heard the motor running on anything I have filmed with it (when not using external mic). I can recommend this cam. The picture quality and manual functions are all first rate and its smal...

Great idea, but one piece of advice, don't sacrifice the quality for the quantity. I live pretty near you guys, so if you want any help, give me a shout.

Sounds like it could be a fantastic filmmaking adventure.

The blood looks good by the way.

Two words - Absolutely fantastic. This is by far one of the best amateur shorts I have ever seen anywhere, bar none. The whole thing from start to finish was a joy to watch. You've got yourself a talented team. The music was spot on, the story highly enjoyable with a great blend of humour and some b...

RE: RED trailer

Looks interesting - to a point. You should have shown us a few quick flashes of what the result is of this red flash to create more intrigue. The trailer as it stands is fine and well edited with well placed sound, but there are a few too many cuts to black with too little information. You need grab...

If it's for short shots, use cigars or cigarettes. They work well indoors. Now I'm not condoning smoking, you don't have to smoke them, but its quite effective.

RE: making minour explosions

Its not the point that you can buy gun powder. The point is that there are a small amount of fools who want to abuse the freedom you have to buy it. If it wasn't for these idiots and terrorists, you would still be able to buy anything you wanted. Just think how cool it would be for us filmmakers wit...

RE: "Not Alone" - A short film

Excellent. Enjoyed it a lot. A good short film where not one scene is wasted, or too long - well edited I thought. Good job. A nice use of practicals and the obvious limited space in the room is compensated by cleverly positioned shots.

RE: Washable Spraypaint?

If all else fails just use water based poster paint and a small hand water sprayer (the kind that you use to spray plants with). It may not spray totally effectively but its a cheap option that you know will in no way damage the car.

Have a read through this. It may help.

With a little bit of clever editing, you could cut between a real person and this dummy (based on the actor) and make it do anything your heart desires.

If you're serious about filmmaking, use what you can. Anything. It does not matter. Just make films and don't mope about wishing you had stuff that you haven't. If all you can afford is a cheap old second hand cam, then so be it. Work with whatever you can gets your hands on. But for heavens sake, d...
