Not all standalone dvd players play vcd's, i dont think ps2 plays vcd's - but most dvd players do and will normally say on the front VCD or sumthin if they do. all computer dvd drives play vcd's but u may need a vcd playing s/w to play it.

Well I've used divx compression at 4000kb/s. I must have rendered the same file about 4 times now but it is the same quality? - I don't actually think its rendering though - just joining? - It's in premiere btw.

Yes I tried using Real and it gave really good results - I set at the highest setting and it made a 40mb file into less than 500kb's! - with not really any noticeable difference in quality. - most of the time I use DivX though - if again, that's at the highest setting - i think its 4000kb/s bitrate ...

Quality is fine when put thru analogue onto TV - i think perhaps the software is compressing it? - as about a minute of video was 8mbs! - What could I use to capture it - I've tried using Ulead DVD Studio but that quality is even worse than the other s/w. - Perhaps I'll try Premiere?

USB vs Firewire

OK - I justhave my new cam - a JVC GR-DV700. I don't have firewire yet so I'm using USB 1.1 - when captured, the video is poor quality - just to check - will getting a firewire card increase the quality? :)
