If you want a decent free way to add at least the film scratches, download VirtualDub and this plugin: http://www.compression.ru/video/old_cin ... ex_en.html

Adobe Premiere and After Effects. Haven't used FCP, the pros of Adobe is that I don't need a Mac to use it. :p Since I don't use FCP, I can't compare them, but I know Adobe. I jump between Photoshop to Premiere to AE and back when I'm working on stuff, and I guess it all seems to work pretty well to...

RE: Smokin
It looked like the TV and image in the TV didn't match for a couple frames, might check the keyframes on that. That was very cool though. I was watching Smokin' Aces yesterday actually and I did watch the whole credits sequence and thinking it would be cool to do something similar. Nice work. (edit:...

Dang nice. Very impressive. The shadow seems off though, I think because it gives the impression that the explosion is really far away because of how slowly the smoke is moving. Speed that up to make it look closer and I think it'll make more sense. Softening the shadows might make it look a little ...

RE: 3d shadows question
I know in 3DS there's a certain kind of preset material like "shadow matte" or something that you can apply to an object to make it transparent except for the shadows it receives. You might not want to use a blue background for that though and instand render to something that supports alph...

RE: Wire Removal?
I think even large budget movies do it frame by frame (export to Photoshop filmstrip, go from there).

RE: the eye flash
I would export the sequence into a filmstrip or image sequence. Then watch the effect from the show or DVD or whatever frame by frame and see how they did it, then draw it in frame by frame into your footage.

I think you need to redo the opening credits: A long time ago, when nerds ruled the school halls... NERD WARS Episode 1: No Hope The Nerdi Knights, aided by the Force, have been the reigning class in the school halls for decades. But internal dissention and politics has resulted in civil war amongst...

I actually thought about this before. There are some movies where it seems like every frame are high quality. I never thought of it in terms of hanging one in an art gallery (museum?), but just in how well each individual frame was layed out, etc. You can bash me for it, but I thought the first Matr...

There's no program that can detect what the camera didn't record. I don't know of any programs or plugins which will detect a flickering monitor and try to put something over it. You could mask it in After Effects if you had a lot of time. Using an LCD monitor will also fix your problem as they don'...

My favorite part was the gun effects. The kind of silenced gun was quite nice. But yeah actually a pretty good film bar a few parts with what looked like intentionally bad acting and the story... That one shot with the guy going into the house and shooting the people in there, the first cut was very...

Q: Ash/snow effect (Silent Hill)
How would you guys suggest trying to composite falling ash/snow into a scene? Silent Hill did it really well. Very neat effect. Anyone know of any particle generators that would do this well?
